FRI-BALL MASTERY

For players aged U6 to U12, developing ball mastery is the most important technical skill. During these ages, the focus is on “neuromuscular coordination”—making the ball feel like an extension of the foot—so that, as they grow older, they can focus on tactics rather than on their feet.

Ball Familiarity + Functional 1v1 skills + Tight-space control

The “Secret Sauce” of ball mastery is repetition. A player who gets 500 touches a day at home will quickly surpass a player who only touches the ball at team practice twice a week.

The “10-Minute” Rule: emphasizes that consistency beats intensity; 10 minutes of ball mastery daily is more effective than one 90-minute session each week.

Key skills:  Basic dribbling with the laces, “taming” the ball with the sole, and basic turns (Pull-back, Drag-back).

Small Ball Training:  involves using a Size 1 or 2 “skills ball” to greatly improve precision for older players (U10+).

Focus:  Increasing footwork speed and using the non-dominant foot as much as the dominant one.
